Credit Risk Manager (East Africa)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly analytical and strategic Credit Risk Manager to lead credit risk assessment and portfolio quality management for our Embedded Finance products across East Africa. This role is central to ensuring responsible credit growth, reducing delinquency, and shaping effective risk strategies that empower employees while protecting SeamlessHR’s financial health.

Job Details

• Develop and implement credit risk assessment frameworks for loan products tailored to East African markets.
• Analyze customer data, employer profiles, and economic conditions to set risk tolerance and lending criteria.
• Collaborate with Credit Sales, Product, and Engineering teams to improve credit approval models, scoring tools, and risk automation systems.
• Monitor portfolio performance, flag early warning signals, and drive timely intervention for at-risk loans.
• Work with internal teams and third-party providers (e.g., credit bureaus, collections agencies) to enhance data-driven risk decisions.
• Provide regular risk analysis reports and insights to inform executive decisions.
• Drive initiatives to optimize loan recovery and collection strategies in partnership with local teams.
• Lead or contribute to regulatory compliance efforts, including adherence to local financial regulations, AML/KYC policies, and consumer protection laws.
• Contribute to the design and rollout of new credit products by identifying risk points and recommending mitigants early in product development.
• Any other duties that may be assigned.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of experience in credit risk management, portfolio management, or credit analytics—preferably in a fintech, digital lending, or financial institution environment.
• Strong analytical skills with experience in using data tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, or risk modeling platforms.
• Solid understanding of credit assessment methodologies, scoring models, and underwriting frameworks.
• Proven ability to design and implement risk policies and manage portfolios across diverse customer segments.
• Familiarity with the East African financial landscape, especially Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, or Rwanda.
• Experience in embedded finance or payroll-linked lending is a strong advantage.
• Effective communication, reporting, and stakeholder management skills.
